IC & Massage 01/27/2010

Something sad and wonderful happened to me last month during a massage: the therapist worked on my thigh muscles and the muscles on my stomach and as she worked, tears sprang from my eyes and I could feel all the emotions and thoughts associated with years of severe pain in my bladder and pelvic region.  I wondered why I hadn't thought to have this part of my body worked on to support healing of my muscles and emotions.  I am continually amazed by the memories (good and bad) that our cells, muscles, and nerves retain months and years after traumatic events in our lives.

It is good to get blood flowing in our pelvic region when we have IC.  This can occur through acupuncture, massage, biofeedback, using a TENS unit, yoga, or acupressure, the list is seemingly endless.  I have also found that guided hypnotherapy or meditation is also a great way of acknowledging and supporting the pain (or painful memories) of our pelvic region.  These tools and techniques are not only for women as men can use them as well to heal from IC/prostatitis.  I would encourage each of you to explore the various healing modalities and to support your bodies in ways that support your continued health.
