Just when we thought that it was hard enough pronouncing Interstitial Cystitis, most U.S. doctors and IC medical boards are working to rename it "Interstitial Cystitis-Painful Bladder Syndrome." While in Europe there is a huge effort underway to refer to the disease only as Bladder Pain Syndrome or BPS.
So now when someone asks me what is wrong with me I can say: "Oh, my IC-PBS (without glomerations) is acting up again." People are going to wonder if I am a cyborg needing an upgrade. But seriously, shouldn't there be a global standardization of the name with the hope that along with that standardization that medical communities from Europe and the U.S. (and other countries for that matter) can share information from clinical trials too?
There is always hope.
